Source Identification
VERITAS searches online sources and highlights relevant publications, articles, books and documents.
There is no single acceptable similarity percentage for all undergraduate dissertations. Thresholds and assessment rules may vary between universities, faculties and degree programmes. The percentage should be interpreted alongside the matching passages and sources identified.
Each institution may set its own similarity checking rules. Two dissertations with the same percentage can also present very different situations: one may contain properly attributed quotations and legislative text, while the other may include substantial passages reproduced without attribution.
VERITAS searches online sources and highlights relevant publications, articles, books and documents.
Attributed quotations and translated quotations are distinguished from passages flagged for potential plagiarism review.
The system can identify Romanian passages translated from English, even when the wording does not appear directly in Romanian-language sources.
The system automatically distinguishes scholarly publications, legislation, standards and official documentation to support more precise similarity analysis.

Review the sources associated with each passage, your quotations and paraphrasing, and your faculty's requirements. An overall score does not replace a detailed review of the passages that contributed to the similarity percentage.
If your institution specifies a similarity threshold, you must comply with it. The nature of the textual matches identified in your document remains important as well.

The similarity percentage indicates how much of your document was matched to passages in the sources identified by the system. It is an indicator to support your review, rather than an automatic finding of plagiarism. The Similarity Report is informational and does not constitute an official determination of plagiarism.
Two dissertations with the same overall percentage may present very different situations. In one, the matches may come largely from properly attributed quotations, common expressions or legislative text. In another, they may involve passages whose citations or paraphrasing need review.
Focus on reviewing flagged passages rather than artificially lowering a percentage. Check that borrowed ideas are attributed to their sources, quotations are clearly marked and paraphrases use your own wording while preserving the source's meaning.
Before submission, consult your faculty's or university's regulations for any specific requirements. To check your document, use our undergraduate dissertation checking page.
